Employment recovery surge
– How to find talent amidst the skills shortage
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) published their latest figures on employment rates yesterday, showing that the number of live job vacancies exceeded 1 million for the first time on record as the UK economy recovers from the pandemic. We also saw unemployment rate falling from 4.8% down to 4.7%, while the annual growth in average pay was 7.4%.
With 1.65 million job adverts in the UK in the first week of August, we’re not surprised to see that many employers are struggling to find staff. We are also seeing companies start to ramp up starting salaries in a bid to become more competitive, which is great for job seekers.
However, pay increases alone will not solve the candidate demand that has built up over the years.
Skills shortages have been around for a while, and they can be difficult to fix. Recruitment agencies are here to help, despite the stigma attached!
